What's In A Name? Batch Renaming In The Finder

Doing multiple repetitive tasks quickly is one area where computers shine. When you have the need to rename multiple files there is no need to reach for a dedicated Batch Renaming application as the tool that you need is built in directly to the Finder. Check out our video below to find out more.

The steps

  • Select the files you wish to rename.
  • Right or control click on the files to reveal the contextual menu.
  • Select Rename from the menu.
  • Choose the configuration for your rename operation from the Rename Finder Items sheet.
  • Commit your changes by clicking rename.

Quick-Tip

Remember when using the Name and Date method for multiple files each file will be given the same name. To maintain a unique filename MacOS will append an ascending number to the files.
